SNOW HILL - The Worcester County Commissioners elected a new president today, unanimously voting Commissioner Virgil Shockley into position.
Shockley takes the presidency over from Commissioner Jim Purnell, who spent two years and two months in the post, taking over in late 2005 from Commissioner Sonny Bloxom.
The commissioners also unanimously re-elected Commissioner Louise Gulyas as vice president of the seven-commissioner body at the March 4 meeting.
There was only one nominee for each position, and no discussion on either vote.
Shockley thanked Purnell for his service as president, after Purnell handed over the gavel and wished him good luck. The president of the County Commissioners sets agendas, runs meetings and directs policy for the county staff.
