Beach Wins Big at Lax Splash

6/10/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- The Beach Lacrosse program made a strong showing at the prestigious Lax Splash Tournament in the Baltimore area last weekend, winning to championships in the annual showcase event.

Lax Splash features the top teams from the tradition-rich Baltimore area along with other teams from up and down the east coast. Since its inception about a decade ago, the Beach teams were just happy to be invited to the party, but as the program has grown and improved over the years, it has become a force to be reckoned with.

The Beach Lacrosse boys’ 9-10C team won the championship in its division, sweeping five games to earn the title. The 9-10C boys beat Charm City, 16-1, in its opener, the beat Perry Hall, 5-2, and Bel Air, 6-2, in low scoring games to reach the quarterfinals. Beach Lacrosse beat Fallston, 6-3, in the semifinals, and topped Bethesda, 7-3, in the championship game.

The Beach Lacrosse girls’ 11-12C team also won the championship in its division. The girls beat the Wilmington Wings, 15-2, in the first round, then beat Bethesda, 11-2, and Rockville, 13-4, to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarters, Beach beat the Cockeysville Cows, 11-4, then beat Lutherville, 7-1 in the semifinals. The Beach girls beat Dublin Darlington, 7-6, in an exciting championship game.
