BERLIN- The Berlin Dolphins youth football teams enjoyed a big day last Saturday with both teams, the juniors and the cadets, earning big wins over visiting opponents at Buckingham Elementary.
The Berlin Dolphins play in the Salvation Army League of Salisbury with 10 teams from as far away as Chincoteague, Virginia. Other teams in the league include Snow Hill, Pocomoke, Princess Anne and six teams from Salisbury. The Berlin Dolphins compete in two divisions including the juniors, ages 11-15, and the cadets, ages 7-10.
Coached by Ron Bireley and former Stephen Decatur High School football standout Ernest Shockley, the junior division teams routed the Chincoteague Colts, 35-12, at home last Saturday, while the Dolphin cadets took care of the Salisbury Bulldogs, 25-6. The cadets' record now stands at 4-2 on the season with two games remaining on the regular season schedule.
Now in their sixth season of existence, the cadets are marching toward a playoff berth in the Salvation Army league. They face a tough opponent in the Salisbury Tarheels tomorrow at home at Buckingham Elementary at 10 a.m.
