BERLIN- Worcester Prep's men's soccer team clinched the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) regular season title last week with a win over rival Salisbury School in double-overtime, but the suddenly wet weather has kept the Mallards from celebrating what could be another conference tournament championship.
Worcester faced old rival Salisbury School in season finale last Thursday and clinched the regular season title with a 5-4 win over the Dragons in double-overtime. The Mallards, who had won 10 straight games going into the game with Salisbury School, led the game 2-0 at halftime, but the Dragons came out firing in the second half and tied the game at 4-4 at the end of regulation.
The two teams played a scoreless first overtime period before Worcester's Evan Bauer punched in the game winner in the second overtime period. The game winner was Bauer's second goal of the contest. Worcester's Chase Humprhey also scored twice while Mike Mollichelli scored the Mallards' other goal.
The win over Salisbury School last Thursday was the 11th in a row for Worcester, which ran the table after an early season loss to Sussex Tech. Worcester was prepared to take on Gunston in the first round of the ESIAC tournament on Wednesday afternoon when the skies opened up and washed out the contest.
