Seahawks Lose Coin Toss for Title

5/06/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity lacrosse team suffered a couple of setbacks last week, losing to rival Parkside, 12-7, on Friday to relinquish its Bayside South lead before losing a coin toss to the Rams to determine who will represent the South in the Bayside Conference championship game.

After a thrilling triple overtime win over neighborhood rival Worcester Prep last, the Seahawks had to regroup quickly for a huge Bayside South game against Parkside with the division title on the line. Decatur led Parkside by one game in the division standings, but the Rams pulled even with a 12-7 win.

The Parkside win forced a coin toss to determine the Bayside South championship. The Rams won the toss and will face Bayside North champion Kent Island in the conference championship game. Despite the loss on the field followed by the coin toss loss, the season is far from over for the Seahawks, who will certainly garner a high seed when the state Class 3A-East region playoff brackets are announced next week.

However, Decatur will likely be without star middie Johnny Moore the rest of the way. Moore suffered a concussion from a vicious cross stick during the Parkside game, his second in about a month, and will likely be shut down for the rest of the season.
