BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team scored two goals about two minutes apart early in the second half on Monday to beat visiting Greenwood Mennonite, 3-1, to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Both teams scored single goals in the first half, which ended in a 1-1 tie. The score remained tied through the early minutes of the second half before the Mallards scored two goals just two minutes apart. Andrew Ternahan, who scored the Mallards’ lone first-half goal, scored at the 31:47 mark to give Worcester a 2-1 lead. About two minutes later, with 29:33 left in the contest, it was Worcester’s Harrison Brennan finding the back of the net to give the Mallards a little cushion at 3-1.
Greenwood Mennonite kept forcing the issue and had opportunities throughout the rest of the second half, but the Mallard defense rose to the occasion and Worcester held on for the 3-1 win. With the win, Worcester improved its record to 6-1 on the season, its only lost coming to Washington, D.C.-area Don Bosco. Worcester has now outscored its opponents this season by a combined 23-6 in seven games.
