Seahawk Wrestlers Remain Unbeaten

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's varsity wrestling team remained unbeaten last week in dual meet action, going on the road to defeat a tough Patuxent team in southern Maryland, 56-11, to go 4-0 in the early part of the season.

Coach Kevin Gilligan has scheduled some tough matches out of the area to better gage how his team will perform against some of the better programs in the state and Patuxent provided an early season test. The Seahawks passed with flying colors, winning 12 of 14 individual matches including five by pin, three by technical fall, two by major decision and two by decision.

Some of the highlights included a 45-second pin by Cody Bush and a one-minute pin by Luke Bargar. Mike Baglieri also won a major decision. Decatur got out to a big early lead and led 26-0 before Patuxent got on the scoreboard with a win at 170 when Mason Mills beat Mike Meekins. The Seahawks extended the lead to 46-4 and cruised to the fairly easy win over an always-tough Patuxent team. Next up for the Seahawks is a home match against Bayside Conference rival Bennett on January 6, followed by the Delmarva Classic on January 15-16.
