Seahawks Run Win Streak to 12

10/30/2009 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's girls' varsity volleyball team continued its dominance this week, sweeping Easton, 3-0, on Monday for its 12th win in a row.

The Seahawks cruised past Easton on Monday, beating the Warriors in straight games, 25-12, 25-22, and 25-20. Holly Melson led the way with 16 service points, four aces and six kills. Anne Winters also made a big contribution, adding eight digs and four kills, while Rosa Navarra pitched in four kills.

For Decatur, the win over Easton on Monday was the 12th in a row. The Seahawks lost their opening match of the season to North Caroline, 3-1, but have now reeled off 12 straight wins. Nearly all of the Seahawks' wins during the streak have come by sweep. The last time Decatur lost even a single game was back on September 30 when the Seahawks beat James M. Bennett, 3-1. Decatur will face Bennett tonight on the road in the regular season finale.
