Ledo's Burglar Pleads Guilty; Sentenced to Seven Years

5/16/2008 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

SNOW HILL- An Ocean City man arrested in December along with a juvenile after attempting to break into a West Ocean City pizza parlor and swinging a crowbar at employees attempting to stop him pleaded guilty this week in Circuit Court to attempted second-degree burglary and was sentenced to seven years in jail.

Shortly before midnight on December 30, Maryland State Police troopers, assisted by County Sheriff's Deputies, responded to the Ledo's Pizza in the White Marlin Mall for a reported attempted burglary in progress. The officers met with several witnesses who said they were in the store after normal business hours when they heard a loud banging at the rear door of the establishment.

The witnesses, employees of Ledo's, went out the front door and walked around to the rear of the building to find out what was going on when they saw a suspect, later identified as Victor Marshall Young, 51, of Ocean City, attempting to forcibly enter the rear door with a crowbar, a mallet and a knife. When the witnesses confronted Young, he swung at them with the crowbar and attempted to assault them.

Meanwhile, the second suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile from Ocean City, fled on foot to vehicle waiting nearby and the vehicle left the parking lot. The witnesses were able to subdue Young and hold him until the troopers and deputies arrived on the scene.

Based on the description of the suspect vehicle, a broadcast went out to locate the getaway car. Several minutes later, officers from the Ocean City Police Department located the vehicle heading northbound on Coastal Highway near 63rd Street. The juvenile matching the description given by the witnesses was found to be driving the vehicle and he was taken into custody.

Young was arrested and charged with second- and fourth-degree burglary along with numerous counts of first- and second-degree assault. This week in Circuit Court, Young pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree burglary and was sentenced to seven years in jail. The disposition of the juvenile's case in not known.
