Salisbury News In Brief
SALISBURY – The City Council breezed through its legislative session as it unanimously approved a few items listed in their consent agenda as well as one additional resolution.
Trust By-laws Approved
According to City Clerk Brenda Colegrove, the by-laws of the Retiree Health Plan Trust for the Wicomico County Board of Education Wicomico County Maryland and City of Salisbury were unanimously accepted at the Trustees quarterly meeting held on July 28. The Wicomico County Council approved the by-laws on Oct. 4, and the Board of Education approved them on Oct. 11.
The resolution states that the Wicomico County Board of Education Wicomico County Maryland and the City of Salisbury sponsor a Retiree Health Plan Trust referred to as the GASB#45 Trust and the Board of Trustees of the Retiree Health Plan Trust are responsible for the management and operation of the Trust. The board desires to institute the by-laws to establish a formal structure for the management and operation of the trust.
K-9 Vest Donated
The second resolution of the consent agenda was to accept a K-9 Protective Vest. According to Police Chief Barbara Duncan, the vest is valued at approximately $9,000 and is being donated by Cathy-Jo Williams of Cathy’s Pet Salon.
River Grant Accepted
Another resolution included in the consent agenda was to accept funding awarded through Salisbury to the Center for Watershed Protection in the amount of $75,000. According to Assistant City Manager Lore Chambers, the funds are to be utilized to develop a restoration implementation plan for the Wicomico River Watershed.
The project will determine specific strategies to meet target pollution load reductions established by the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) for Wicomico County.
Intersection Work Ahead
The only resolution not included in the consent agenda but was approved by council unanimously was a Maryland Department Housing and Community Development, Community Legacy grant application for funds to provide Phase 2 of the Mill Street/West Main Street intersection improvements pedestrian connectivity project and to authorize Mayor James Ireton to sign all documents necessary for the receipt of funds.
