Thursday, November 29 - Annual Chili Cookoff Benefits County's Needy

11/23/2007 | By The Dispatch Staff

OCEAN CITY - Entries are still being accepted for the 9th Annual Ocean City Parrothead Club's Hots for Tots Chili Cookoff, which will be held on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the West Ocean City Greene Turtle from 1-4 p.m.

There will be three competitions: Ocean City's Best Restaurant, Ocean City's Best Private Sector and CASI (a national competition). Last year's winners included the Greene Turtle West, Best Restaurant, and Mike Capuano, Best Private Sector.

Judging of the cookoff will be done by patron participation. A Best of Show Award will also be given to the best dressed area.  That coveted title was landed by the Greene Turtle West at last year's event.

The cookoff serves as a toy drive for the Worcester County Sheriff Assocation's Needy 2007 and a fund drive for the Worcester GOLD families during the holidays. Hundreds of patrons took out each year and more than 50 different chili entries are expected this year.

If you are interested in participating in the Chili Cookoff, visit the Greene Turtle for a registration form or visit the Ocean City Parrothead Club website to register at www.ocphc.com and click on the Chili Cookoff link.

The Chili Appreciation Society International's (CASI) mission is to promote chili and raise money for charity. Each year, nearly 10,000 cooks share their chili fun and good deeds with each other, public and sponsors at 600 CASI cookoffs, throughout the U.S. and neighboring countries. These CASI-sanctioned events raise over a million dollars, annually, for local charities and provide a chance for cooks to qualify for the Terlingua International Chili Championship.

The Ocean City Parrothead Club is the largest Parrothead Club in the world. Parrotheads are an international, non-profit organization of people who love the island lifestyle, listen to Jimmy Buffett music and appreciate the meaning of having a good time while donating their time to worthwhile causes. If you have a bit of Margaritaville in your soul and you are still searching for your lost shaker of salt, visit www.ocphc.com or contact the club hotline at 410-520-2100 for membership information. Yearly dues are $20 per person and $30 per couple
