OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s 23rd Annual St. Patrick’s Indoor Soccer Tournament rolled on last weekend with new champions crowned in the event’s signature men’s and women’s open divisions.
The annual event features about 150 teams from all over the mid-Atlantic region converging on Ocean City each late winter and early spring for a huge indoor soccer tournament spread over four weekends. Last weekend, the men’s and women’s Open Division 18-plus teams took the indoor fields at Northside Park with one local team, the Bull on the Beach, emerging as champions.
The Bull on the Beach swept through the early rounds to reach the Final Four, where it faced the Magic Men. On the other side of the bracket, another local team, Three Brothers Pizza, also reached the Final Four, and faced the River Soccer Club. The Bull on the Beach beat the Magic Men, 4-3, in its semifinal to reach the championship game, while the River Soccer Club beat Three Brothers Pizza to earn a trip to the finals.
In the championship game, the Bull on the Beach blanked River Soccer Club, 4-0, to earn the title. On the women’s side, Prestige Worldwide won the Open Division championship, beating All Night Long, 4-3, in the finals.
The tournament started three weeks ago with the boys’ and girls’ under-18 brackets. On the boys’ side, the ESSC Impact defeated a local team, the Decatur Soccer Club, in the finals, while the Futures defeated Chrome World in the women’s final. Two weeks ago, another local team, Rommel’s Ace Hardware, won the boys’ under 16 championship, while Rommel’s girls’ under 16 team fell to Overlea Storm in their championship game.
In the under-12 divisions, the Fruitland SC Panthers defeated the SCM Vipers, 4-0, to win the girls’ championship, while K-OSS topped the Baltimore SC Crush, 3-1, to win the boys’ title. This weekend, the month-long tournament concludes at Northside Park with the boys’ and girls’ under-10 and under-14 divisions taking center stage.
