Charlie Donahue of Philadelphia caught this 23-pound tautog, a pending Maryland state record, fishing aboard the “Morning Star” with Captain Monty Hawkins last Wednesday. The tog was 33 inches long and had a girth of 25 inches. The pending record tog took a whole green crab over Ocean City’s artificial reef system and was weighed at Ake Marine in West Ocean City and witnessed by DNR Biologist Steve Doctor. The previous tog record was set by local angler Sam Beauchamp with a 20.11-pounder caught in March 2007.
