Friday, October 9--Stimulus Money To Fund Pedestrian Work
OCEAN CITY - The State Highway Administration (SHA) this week began extensive pedestrian safety work along Coastal Highway in Ocean City as part of a $2.7 million federal stimulus investment in pedestrian safety projects in three counties on the Eastern Shore.
This week, SHA crews began an extensive list of pedestrian safety enhancement projects in the resort along Coastal Highway from 30th Street to the Delaware line. The work includes upgrading sidewalk ramps and driveway entrances along the highway, installing new audible pedestrian signals, adding more countdown clocks at intersections and replacing curbs, gutters and sidewalks at various locations. In addition to their pedestrian safety value, the projects will also help bring the town into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).
SHA crews will work Monday through Friday from sunrise to sunset, and weather permitting, the work should be completed by spring. Portions of the bus lanes in both directions may be closed at times and sidewalk patterns may be altered.
