32nd Small Boat Tourney in the Books

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Marlin Club’s 32nd Annual Small Boat Tournament last weekend was a big success with plenty of action both offshore and inshore.

The Marlin Club’s annual Small Boat Tournament provides an opportunity for some of the smaller vessels in the resort area’s sportfishing fleet to compete before the bigger events such as the Ocean City Tuna Tournament and the White Marlin Open arrive on the calendar. As its name implies, the event is open to boats with a length of 34 feet or under.

In the offshore portion of the tournament, the crew on the “Bimini” won the white marlin release division with a white released at 8:23 a.m. worth $1,260. In the tuna division, it was the “Strike Fever” taking first place with a 56.4-pounder worth $2,052. The “Empty Pockets” was second with a 52-pounder worth $337, the “Vapor Trail” was third and the “Notorious” was fourth in terms of weight, but first in terms of prize money in the division, taking home $2,556 because of added entry levels.

In the dolphin division, the “Opport-Tuna-Ty” took first place with a 12-pounder worth $4,531. The crew on the “Joken” was second and earned $337, while the “Keepin’ It Reel” was third and earned $396 in prize money.

Inshore, the “Git R Done” swept the rockfish division and earned $432. The “Jezebel” took all in the tog division and earned $612. In the flounder division, it was the “Thomps III” taking first, the “Master Exploder” taking second, the “Jack Attack” was third, the “Git R Done” was fourth and the “2Far Out” was fifth.

The “Myra HT” was first in the bluefish division, while the “Git R Done” took second and third. The “Ocean Rebel” took first in the sea bass division, followed by the “Jezebel,” the “Always Late” and the “Fish Box.”
