Mallards Take Two of Three on Road

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball got through a tough stretch of three road games to start the 2011-2012 season with a 2-1 record after thrashing Salisbury Christian, 32-21, on Monday.

The young Mallards team, with just three players returning from last year’s squad, started the season with three games all on the road against Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) foes and came through the tough stretch with a 2-1 mark. Worcester beat Greenwood Mennonite, 46-30, in the season opener on the road last Tuesday.

Last Friday, the Mallards took their first loss of the season against, falling to old ESIAC rival Salisbury School, 37-33, in a tight contest also on the road. On Monday, Worcester rebounded from its first setback with a decisive 32-21 win over Salisbury Christian.

Worcester returns just three players from last year’s varsity team including juniors Zander Farr and Harrison Brennan, along with sophomore Matt Reilly. The two seniors on the roster, Mateo Petrara and Will Simons, spent much of last season on the junior varsity team before being called up to varsity late in the year.

Other young Mallards expected to make immediate contributions this year include juniors Scott Gee, Josh Moyer and Conor Nally, along with sophomores Billy Brittingham and Jack Marshall. The Mallards face Holly Grove this afternoon in the home opener, the first of three straight home games for Worcester.
