BERLIN- Led by an even par round by standout Jake Miller, Stephen Decatur's varsity golf team rebounded from its first loss of the season last week with another first-place finish at Nutter's Crossing on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, the Seahawks dropped their first match of the year after Parkside shot a 169 and Decatur finished with a 173. On Tuesday, Decatur got back in the win column with a season low 156, while Parkside finished with an impressive 160. Jake Miller led the Seahawks with an even par 35, while Nikki Rafer shot a 38, Joe Iacona shot a 41, Connor Gebhart finished in 42 and Katie Kotoski came in at 45. Miller's 35 tied for low round on the day with Bennett's Zak Sterling, who also shot even par.
Decatur's overall record now stands at 5-1, its only non-win of the season a second-place finish last Thursday at Ocean Pines. The Seahawks lead the Bayside South with a low team score of seven after five first-place finishes and one second-place finish. Parkside is second with 11 total points for one first-place finish and five seconds. Bennett is third with 18 team points.
Miller leads the Bayside South in scoring average with a 37.8, while Brennan McAllister of Parkside is second (38.5), Bennett's Zak Sterling is third (39.2) and Decatur's Nikki Rafer is third (39.6). Gebhart is also currently in the Bayside South top 10, sitting in seventh place overall with a 41.3 scoring average after six matches, while Iacona is eighth with a 41.8 average.
