Fourth Reindeer Run Largest Ever

12/21/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- The 4th Annual Reindeer Run 5K last weekend, sponsored by Live Long Fitness, was a huge success with 322 runners competing in the annual holiday race through the streets of downtown Berlin.

The annual race, which has become a fixture on the local holiday schedule since its inception three years ago, started and finished at the Atlantic Hotel in Berlin last Saturday morning with the course winding its way through the heart of the downtown area. From the Atlantic Hotel, the course headed down Main Street around the Worcester Prep campus and the Northern Worcester County Athletic Complex before finishing back in front of the hotel on Main Street.

Last weekend’s race was the largest ever with 322 competitors. With the town decorated, the event is the perfect kick-off to the holiday season. As an added bonus, jingle bells were distributed to the runners to attach to their shoes during the race, which added to the festivities. For the second year in a row, Berlin’s own Dave Rovansek was the top overall finishers, while Lindsay Buckman was the top female finishers for the second year in a row. The Top 10 finishers included Rovansek, Steve Wheeler, Blake Hundley, Christopher Stanley, Brian Stoehr, Ben Schofield, Rick Hundley, Pete Mohammadioun, Jason Cole and Buckman.
