BERLIN- Despite often uneven, up and down seasons, Stephen Decatur’s varsity basketball teams got decent draws when the state Class 3A-East region state playoff brackets were released this week.
The Decatur boys earned a number-four seed in the Class 3A-East region and a first-round bye. The Seahawks will face fifth-seeded Bennett in the second round. The Clippers swept the Seahawks in two regular season meetings, winning 71-59 way back on December 9 and 61-52 on January 18.
Decatur heads into the state regional playoffs reeling with seven straight losses. The Seahawks dropped their season finale, 76-57, to Queen Anne’s last Thursday and last won a game back on January 25 against Snow Hill.
On the girls’ side, Decatur is the eighth seed in the Class 3A-East region and will host ninth-seeded River Hill at home. The Seahawks dropped their regular season finale, 64-60, to Delmar last Friday and finished with a 5-11 record. James M. Bennett is the top seed in the Class 3A-East region.
