Beach Lax Splash Events a Big Hit
OCEAN CITY- The resort area was ground zero for youth
lacrosse last weekend with over 200 of the top boys' and girls' programs from
all over the country descending on Ocean City and northern Worcester County for
the annual Beach Lax Splash tournaments.
Hosted by the local Beach Lacrosse program in conjunction
with the Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department, the tournaments held each
June have grown to well over 200 years since the inception of the event. The
girls' tournament took place exclusively at Northside Park in Ocean City, while
the boys' tournament was played tournament was played at different venues
around the area including the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex, Berlin
Intermediate School, Decatur Middle and Most Blessed Sacrament School.
On the girls' side, the local Beach Lacrosse program teams
did well with Coach Jeff Porter's under-11 team and Coach Tiffany Wyatt's
under-13 team just missing the finals in their respective divisions. The other
Beach Lacrosse girls' teams participating fared well against some of the top
programs in the region.
On the boys' side, Beach Lacrosse teams fared well also.
The Beach 7-8B team beat Perry Hall and Bel Air, but lost to SYRA. The Beach 11-12B
team tied Black Dog, beat Cumberland Valley and lost to Reel Lax. The Beach
13-14B team beat Catonsville, 7-2, but lost to Club Blue and V3.
For the record, the Yellow Jackets from Long Island won
both the girls' under-15 A and B divisions, while Energy, from Hanover, Md.,
won the girls' under-13 division. The Tagalongs from Westminster won the girls'
under-11 division, and Lutherville won the under-9 girls' division.
