BERLIN- Several teams from the local Beach Lacrosse program are heading to Baltimore this weekend for Lax Splash 2008, widely considered the largest lacrosse tournament in the world, and a couple of teams will have the opportunity to defend their titles from last year's event.
Lax Splash, played at several different venues in lacrosse tradition-rich Baltimore, last year featured 332 teams and over 6,500 players from all over the mid-Atlantic area and this year promises to be even bigger. Beach Lacrosse will send several boys and girls teams at many different age groups and skill levels and will be well represented at the annual showcase.
Building on a groundswell of momentum that started several years ago, Beach Lacrosse continues to make its presence felt at Lax Splash and similar tournaments throughout the region. Last year, three Beach Lacrosse teams won their respective division championships and the hope is they will have a shot to defend their titles this year.
The Beach Lacrosse girls' 11/12B team won its division title at Lax Splash for the third straight time last year and will return this weekend with a chance to make it four in a row. The Beach Lacrosse boys' 11/12C team won the title in its division last year and will also be seeking a repeat this year. All in all, Beach Lacrosse is sending 11 teams at different age levels and skill levels to the annual event this weekend.
