Berlin Dolphins Remain Unbeaten

BERLIN- The Berlin Dolphins youth football league teams each won again last week with the Juniors routing Snow Hill, 32-0, in their regular season finale and the Cadets also beating the Eagles to improve to 7-0 on the year.

The Berlin Dolphins Junior team finished the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record after dominating Snow Hill last week. The Junior Dolphins’ defense was outstanding again in keeping Snow Hill off the scoreboard and allowed only 20 points in eight games all season. While the defense was taking care of business on its end, the offense had little trouble with the Eagles.

In the first quarter, Justin Meekins hit Craig Snyder with a 45-yard touchdown pass to post the Dolphins to an early 7-0 lead. The Dolphins would score two more times in the first half to build the lead to 21-0 at the intermission on a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown by Sam Coates and a 15-yard TD pass from T.J. Scarfone to Coltoh Lohnas. In the second half, the Dolphins added to their lead with a 14-yard touchdown run by Tripp Ortega and a 12-yard TD run by Coates to finish out the 32-0 win.

Meanwhile, the Berlin Cadet Dolphins also beat Snow Hill, 18-12, last week to improve to 7-0 during the regular season. Berlin started fast out of the gate with an eight-play drive culminated by a 5-yard touchdown run by J.J. Purnell for an early 6-0 lead. Both teams settled in defensively for the rest of the first half, which ended with Berlin’s Billy Wheatley returning an interception nearly to the Snow Hill goal line as time expired.

Early in the third quarter, Snow Hill tied the game at 6-6 on a seven-yard touchdown run, but Berlin responded quickly when Devin Daniels dashed 60 yards for a touchdown to put the Dolphins back on top, 12-6. In the fourth quarter, Berlin went back to pounding the ball on the ground, going 35 yards on six plays ending with a six-yard TD run by Daniels, his second of the game. Late in the game, Snow Hill busted off a 39-yard TD run to move closer at 18-12, but the Dolphins were able to kill the clock and escape with the win.
