3/25/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Berlin native and Stephen Decatur graduate Ashley Moreck will be competing in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships in Wisconsin this weekend after a strong showing last week in the regional meet.

The Springfield College (Mass.) senior and 2007 Decatur graduate scored a 9.2 in the uneven parallel bars during last week’s ECAC Division III championships to advance to the NCGA National Championships in Eau Clair, Wisconsin this weekend. Moreck is one of five members of the Springfield College women’s gymnastics team to advance to nationals.

Moreck started her gymnastics career at the Delmarva Gymnastic Academy in 1993 and finished her DGA career as a Level 9 competitor for three straight years while advancing to regional and national championships each year. In addition to athletic contributions at Springfield, she is also on the Dean’s List, having earned a 4.0 GPA in each of her last two semesters. Moreck is the daughter of Ocean City Police Detective Rick Moreck and his wife Carol, of Ocean Pines.
