BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team picked up a big win last week, beating always tough Meade, 60-9, on the road.
The Seahawks swept 11 of 14 individual matches to rout the Mustangs, 60-9. Of the three matches lost by Decatur, each came by decision by a total of seven points combined. At 103, Decatur’s Nate Rosenblatt won by pin while Matt Meekins won by technical fall in the 112-pound match.
At 119, Decatur’s Cody Bush won by pin as did Alford Hardy at 125. Seth Goggin (130), Nick McLoota (135), and Andrew Borradaile (140) each won by technical fall. Johnny Soghomanian also won by technical fall in the 152-pound match, while Mike Baglieri won by pin in the 160-pound match. Mike Meekins won by decision at 171, while Dave Robertson won by pin at 215. The three losses for the Seahawks all came by decision including Curtis Snyder at 145, Brandon Terlizzi at 189 and Nick Craven at 285.
While the Seahawks varsity team was making quick work of the Mustangs, the Decatur junior varsity team swept the Meade Meltdown JV Duals with a perfect 10-0 record against host Meade, Mt. Hebron, South River, Reservoir, Harford Tech, Atholton, Renegades, River Hill, Aberdeen and North County. The Seahawks get into the meat of their schedule after the holiday break starting with a road match against Bayside South rival Bennett on January 5, followed by a home match against Class 3A-East foe Reservoir on January 8.
