BERLIN- Former Stephen Decatur High School soccer standout Steve Fell, who excelled in college and on the professional level, returns to his roots later this month when he hosts a soccer camp at Snow Hill in conjunction with the Worcester County Recreation and Parks Department.
Fell, one of the most decorated scholar-athletes ever at Decatur, hosted his first summer soccer camp for young boys and girls last year at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex in Berlin, and this year the camp will be held at the John Walter Smith Park in Snow Hill. Fell, accompanied by other coaches and players, will teach young soccer players in the area the basics of the sport in a fun atmosphere.
Around 75 players from all over the region participated in the camp last August in Berlin and Recreation and Parks officials are hoping for a similar turnout this year. The camp begins on Monday, June 18 and runs until Friday, June 22. Each day the camp will include several soccer drills, simulated games and other activities to teach young players the basics, all under the watchful eye of Fell and his assistant coaches.
Fell was a four-year standout at Decatur and was named All State and Bayside Conference Player of the Year in 2000, his senior year. From Decatur, Fell moved his soccer career to Towson University, where he continued to pile up the accolades. Professional soccer became a reality for Fell in 2005 when he was selected by the Baltimore Blast in the amateur draft.
The camp runs from June 18-22, with the activities running each day from 9 a.m. to Noon. The camp is open to bays and girls ages 5-13 and the cost for each player is $115. For more information, contact the county recreation department at (410) 632-1585.
