Mallards Snuff Dragons on Senior Day

10/21/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep’s boys’ varsity soccer team thrashed visiting Salisbury School, 6-1, on Senior Day on Monday to improve to 10-2-1 on the season.

The Mallards built a 3-0 lead by halftime and coasted the rest of the way, adding three more goals in the second half to extend its lead to 6-0. Salisbury School got on the board with a late goal to spoil the Mallards’ chance for a shutout, but the tally did little to tarnish a near-perfect performance for Worcester.

Alex Ternahan led the Worcester offense with three goals, while Seth Conboy had a goal and an assist, Tommy Thornett and Zach Jacobs each had single goals and Ryan McGuire added an assist. Worcester Prep’s seniors, including Michael Dayton-Jones, Walker Harrington, Jacobs, McGuire, Nic Moffitt, Mateo Petrera, Alex Ternahan and Zach Wilde, were honored at halftime on Senior Day.

With the win, the Mallards improved to 10-2-1 on the season, their only losses coming to Don Bosco and Salisbury Christian. Worcester faces Gunston this afternoon on the road in the regular season finale and will compete in the ESIAC tournament next week. The Mallards beat the Herons, 3-2, at home last Friday.
