Seahawks Sweep Bayside Track Titles

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's boys' and girls' varsity indoor track teams swept the Bayside Championships last week for the second straight year, taking first in both meets and collecting several strong finishes in individual competitions along the way.

The Decatur boy's team came in first in total team points with 107, topping second-place North Caroline (63) and Parkside (59). On the girls' side, the Seahawks also claimed the Bayside Championship with 106 points, followed by North Caroline (85.5) and Kent Island (65). The conference championship meet was held at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill.

In individual events on the girls' side of the meet, Decatur's Bradley Janson was a standout with first-place finishes in the 500M and 300M races, while Jessica Ames took first in the pole vault. The Seahawks also excelled in the relays, taking first in both the 4x200 and 4x800 races, while finishing second in the 4x400. All in all, the several Decatur girls placed in just about every event.

For example, Annie Brown finished third in the 300M, Ravyn Saunders finished fourth in the 500M and third in the 800, Carly Bodulus finished fourth in the 800, and Jessica Galuardi finished third in the 55M hurdles. In the field events, Annie Brown finished third in the high jump and Janet Davidson finished third in the shot put. Lydia Logan finished second in the pole vault.

On the boys' side of the championship meet, the Seahawks were no less impressive. Cameron Campbell finished first in the 800M, Cordonte Ayres finished third in the 55M and second in the 300M. Joey Lertora finished third in the 300M and second in the 500M. Garrett Mohammedioun finished third in the 3,200M and James Wells came in first in the 55M hurdles. The Seahawks were also strong in the medleys, finishing second in both the 4x400 and the 4x800 while coming in third in the 4x200.

The Seahawk boys were also strong in the field events with Matt Allenbaugh finishing first in the pole vault and Bradley Hollowell finishing second. Dan Cericola finished sixth in the pole vault. Michael Kempa came in first in the shot put, while Max Hulme finished fifth in the high jump.

Other notable finishes for the Seahawks included Megan Potter, 8th-500M; Anastasia Priest, 8th-3200M; Ciarra Thumma, 9th-3200M; Isabella Iampieri, 6th-55M hurdles; Tyesha Dale, 8th- high jump; and Holly Thiel, 6th- shot put. On the boys' side, Dan Cericola came in 6th in the 300, Christopher Hurley came in 9th in the 500, Christopher David came in 8th in the 800 and the 3200, Patrick McGean finished 7th in the 1600, Brett Lueders finished 9th in the 3200, and Tate Redding finished 10th in the 55M hurdles.
