BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s men’s varsity soccer team continued its domination thus far this season on Tuesday with a 7-0 rout of Worcester County rival Pocomoke to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Decatur got ahead of the Warriors early and continued to apply the pressure all day, rarely allowing Pocomoke to make any substantial offensive threats. The Seahawk midfielders pumped the ball into the offensive end and the Decatur strikers were able to finish up front.
Jason Stitely and Eric Geiser each scored two goals, while Ricardo Espinoza, Spencer Jones and Zak Hoshino all contributed single tallies. Dan Cericola was tough in net, recording four saves in the shutout win.
The Seahawks are now 6-0 at the halfway mark in the regular season with wins over Kent Island, North Caroline, Queen Anne’s, Easton, Wicomico and now Pocomoke. During the stretch, the Seahawks have outscored their opponents by a combined 25-3 and have recorded three shutouts in the six games.
Decatur will now play three straight road games against Mardela this afternoon, followed by Crisfield next Tuesday and Washington next Thursday. The Seahawks will finish the regular season with three straight home games including county rival Snow Hill and always-tough Bayside South rivals Parkside and Bennett.
