Berlin Junior Dolphins Lose Heartbreaker

11/21/2008 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- The Berlin Junior Dolphins fell just short of their goal of winning the Salvation Army Junior Youth Football Championship last week, falling to the Snow Hill Eagles in a heartbreaker, 13-12, after reaching the post-season for the first time.

Snow Hill exacted a bit of revenge with the narrow, 13-12, win over Berlin in the first round of the playoffs. The Dolphins had beaten Snow Hill just days earlier, 13-6, to clinch their first over berth in the Salvation Army Youth League playoffs. In the second meeting between the two teams in the span of a week, it was Snow Hill coming out on top.

Late in the third quarter, Berlin had the opportunity to go ahead or at least tie the game, but failed to convert an extra point. After a scoreless fourth quarter during which both teams turned up the defensive pressure a notch, a single extra point by Snow Hill proved to be the difference in the game. The loss did little to tarnish an exceptional season for Berlin, which finished with a 7-2 record and reached the post-season for the first time.
