Fell Soccer Camp on Tap Next Week

7/25/2008 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN- Former Stephen Decatur soccer standout Steve Fell, who excelled in college and on the professional level, returns to his roots next month when he hosts a soccer camp at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex (NWAC) for young players in the area.

Fell, one of the most decorated scholar-athletes ever at Decatur, hosted his first summer soccer camp for young boys and girls two years at the NWAC in Berlin and returns this August for his third year. Fell, accompanied by other talented coaches and players from the Virginia-based Professional Football Academy, will teach young soccer players in the area the basics of the sport in a fun atmosphere.

Fell, director of technical programs for PFA, will act as camp director for the Summer Excellence Program, which makes a stop in his native Berlin on August 4-8. He will be joined on the coaching staff by current Baltimore Blast player Guiliano Celenza, a former MISL MVP. Also on the coaching staff for the camp in Berlin are former Towson University players Danny Skeleton, Jimmy Fendryk and Galen Cunningham, along with Heather Tomko, a former Penn State and Big Ten All-Conference player.

Fell was a four-year standout at Decatur and was named All State and Bayside Conference Player of the Year in 2000, his senior year. From Decatur, Fell moved his soccer career to Towson University, where he continued to pile up the accolades. Professional soccer became a reality for Fell in 2005 when he was selected by the Baltimore Blast in the amateur draft.

'It is so exciting to be able to help lead a quality program and develop youth players back in my hometown,' he said. 'Our goal is to develop youth players technically, physically and as individuals. It would be tremendous to know that we could play at least a small part in them reaching their goals.'

The camp will be held on August 4-8 at NWAC in Berlin and will be divided into two sessions. Sessions for boys and girls ages 5-13 will be held each day from 9 a.m. to Noon, with sessions for older players ages 14-17 held each evening from 5-8 p.m. More information about the camps and online registration is available on the official PFA website at www.pfacademy.com.
