Mallards Win 6th Straight

10/05/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN- Worcester Prep's men's varsity soccer team continued its season-long hot streak this week, collecting a pair of wins over Delmarva Christian last Thursday and old nemesis Salisbury School on Tuesday to improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Mallards have now reeled off six straight wins after losing to Delaware's Sussex Tech back on September 7. Worcester won its first game of the season against Holly Grove before falling to Sussex Tech in the second game of the season. Since then, the Mallards have not been beaten.

The six-game winning streak includes wins over Salisbury Christian, Gunston, Mount Carmel of Baltimore, Greenwood Mennonite, Delmarva Christian and the Salisbury School. Last Thursday, Worcester beat Delmarva Christian, 4-2, behind Fausto DiCarlo, who scored two goals. Chase Humphrey and Martin Sanchez each scored single goals in the victory.

On Tuesday, Worcester continued its hot streak against always tough Salisbury School. The Dragons scored first on a penalty kick, but Worcester answered with a penalty kick goal of its own from Humphrey. The score remained tied at 1-1 for the rest of the contest until Christian Payne scored for Worcester with just over two minutes left in the game.

The Mallards play Gunston on the road this afternoon and face Delmar on the road next Tuesday before returning home for a rematch with Delmarva Christian next Friday.
