BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s young but talented boys’ varsity lacrosse team passed a big early season test this week, beating Bayside South rival Parkside, 12-6, on the road on Wednesday.
The Seahawks got a little younger, but a little deeper across the board this season as they prepare for an arduous trek through a difficult conference schedule. In the season opener, Decatur exorcised one old demon with a 10-9 win over Bayside North powerhouse Easton and blew by another Bayside North rival Queen Anne’s last Friday, but Parkside is the game the Seahawks often circle on their schedule as a barometer for their progress.
That date came early this year with a road game against the Rams on Wednesday. Decatur trailed early, 4-1, before cranking up its offensive machine. The Seahawks pulled steadily away from the Rams for the big 12-6 win. Erik Geiser led Decatur with five goals, while Curtis Snyder pitched in four and Johnny Moore added two. Decatur keeper Spencer Ashton was outstanding with 10 saves.
