BERLIN- For the second week in a row, Stephen Decatur's once struggling girls' varsity soccer team won in dramatic fashion, beating host Wicomico, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday to improve to 3-6 on the season.
Last week, the Seahawks needed double-overtime to take care of Bayside South rival and previously unbeaten James M. Bennett, 2-1. This week, the Decatur girls beat WiHi by the same score, but it only took one overtime period to accomplish the feat.
Decatur's Liz Rougcher scored an unassisted goal shortly into the first overtime period on Tuesday to give the Seahawks their third win in their last five games. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie with Tori Whigham scoring Decatur's lone goal on an assist by Roughcher. Decatur keeper Leigh Anne Flounlacker was outstanding again in the net with 20 saves.
After starting the season with a dismal 0-4 record, the Seahawks have now gone 3-2 in their last five games including the pair of overtime wins. Decatur's record now stands at 3-6 overall including a 3-5 conference mark.
