Seahawks Vent Frustration on Parkside with a 48-7 Homecoming Win

10/30/2009 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- After enduring a grueling four-game losing streak in the middle of the season, Stephen Decatur's varsity football team has come back with a vengeance including a 48-7 drubbing of Parkside on Homecoming last Friday.

Decatur struggled somewhat during the four-game skid that included a couple of tough brakes and bad bounces, but the Seahawks have righted the ship in a big way in the last two games. Two weeks ago, Decatur vented its frustration on Easton, thrashing the Warriors, 48-0, behind a 236-yard rushing effort by Delonte Tate that included five touchdowns.

Last Friday, the Seahawks mauled Parkside, 48-7, in front of a big Homecoming crowd. John Rich rushed for three touchdowns in the rout, while Tate, who had led the offensive charge for the Seahawks the week before, made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball with three interceptions.

The big wins, however, could be a little too late for Decatur in terms of earning a post-season berth. The Seahawks are currently in fifth place in the Class 3A-East standings and the top four teams make the post-season, but they trail fourth-place Wilde Lake by 15 points with just two games to go. Decatur plays WiHi at home tonight and finishes with Snow Hill on the road next week.
