Worcester Prep Boys Reload For 2007

9/07/2007 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

BERLIN- With a handful of key returning players on nearly every unit on the field, and a bunch of newcomers ready to step up and make their mark, the outlook for the men's varsity soccer team at Worcester Prep this fall looks good.

Expectations are always high at Worcester Prep when it comes to the men's varsity soccer team, which won its seventh straight Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) title last year. The Mallards went 11-1 on the season and came within a 2-1 upset loss to Salisbury School late in the year of having their second unbeaten perfect season in four years.

Worcester Prep is not necessarily rebuilding but rather reloading as the prepare to start their 2007 campaign. The Mallards appear to be deep and talented again with several experienced players on both sides of the field.

Senior Chase Humphrey returns to anchor the middle of the field and should be the catalyst for the Mallards' offense. Holding down the stopper position for Worcester this year will be another veteran senior in Christian Payne.

Perhaps the strongest unit on the field for the Mallards this season will be the defense, with senior Joe Wilson in the goal, fronted by a bunch of talented athletes such as Clayton Perry, Max DiFilippo and Daniel Bunting. Up front, Worcester will have a bunch of players who can put the ball in the net including Michael Mollichelli, Fausto DiCarlo and Jason Pappas.
