BERLIN- Worcester Prep's boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams remained idle this week with several more storm-related postponements and cancellations and have not played now for nearly a month.
The boys' varsity team last played on January 15, a 63-34 win over Gunston. The Mallards were set to play Chincoteague last Friday, but the game was postponed and reset for Tuesday. Monday's schedule game against Salisbury Christian was postponed when school was cancelled again because of snow, as was Tuesday's make-up game with Chincoteague.
Wednesday's scheduled game with Delmar was postponed by Tuesday afternoon and has not been rescheduled. The Mallards are scheduled to play Delmarva Christian at home tonight for Senior Night, but the game could be in jeopardy depending on continued school closures.
Meanwhile, a similar pattern has played out for Worcester's girls' varsity team. The Mallards' scheduled game against Chincoteague last Friday was postponed and has not been rescheduled. On Monday, the Worcester girls were supposed to play Saints Peter and Paul, but that game was postponed and moved to February 16. The Worcester girls were supposed to play the Sabres again on Wednesday, but that game was moved to February 17, so, weather permitting, Worcester will play the Sabres on back-to-back days next week.
The Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) tournament schedule for both the boys and the girls has been altered by the cancellations. The ESIAC semifinals set for February 17 have been moved back a week to February 24, while the conference championship game has been moved from February 19 to February 26.
