Child Hit On Coastal Highway

OCEAN CITY - A St.
Mary's County youth was struck be a vehicle while attempting to cross Coastal
Highway on Tuesday and was flown to a hospital in Baltimore with injuries not
believed to be life threatening.

Around 7:15 p.m. on
Tuesday, Ocean City Police and paramedics responded the area of Old Wharf Rd.
and Coastal Highway for a report of a pedestrian struck by a car.

The investigation
revealed an 11-year-old Maryland boy was struck by a vehicle while attempting
to cross Coastal Highway in an east to west direction against a traffic signal.
According to police reports, the youth was with a parent at the time. However,
the boy attempted to cross the highway without the parent, according to police
reports.

The vehicle that struck
the child had the right-of-way and the name of the driver is being withheld, as
no charges are pending. The child was treated at the scene by Ocean City
paramedics and was ultimately transported by Maryland State Police helicopter
to the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Center in Baltimore.

The
OCPD reminds citizens to use extra caution while crossing streets and is also
advising drivers to be alert for pedestrians in the town's roadways.
Pedestrians are reminded to cross the street at a marked intersection and use
the crosswalks.
