Worcester Boys Fall to Delmar, 61-50

2/19/2010 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep's boys' varsity basketball team lost a tough one on Wednesday, falling to Delmar, 61-50, on the road in its first game in nearly two weeks and only its second in over a month.

Because of snow cancellations following a scheduled winter break, the Mallards last played on February 4, a 41-31 loss to Gunston in overtime on the road. Before that, Worcester last played on January 15 when they beat Gunston. When the Mallards hit the road on Wednesday for a game against Delmar, it appeared on paper the game could be a tough one. Worcester lost to Delmar, 63-28, back on January 7.

However, the Mallards hung in against Delmar on Wednesday for the most part before losing by 11 points. Jason Pappas led Worcester with 12 points on 3-4 three-point shooting. Justin Butler added 10 points, while Alex Ternahan grabbed five rebounds. The Mallards play the regular season finale at home tonight against Delmarva Christian on Senior Night. The ESIAC tournament, moved back by multiple school closures, is scheduled to get underway next week with semifinals on Wednesday and the championship game set for Friday.
