Worcester Girls Snap Two-Game Skid

BERLIN- Worcester Prep's girls' varsity lacrosse team got out to a big early lead against visiting Sussex Tech on Monday, withstood a few minor charges by the Ravens and cruised to a 17-7 win.

The Mallards raced out to a 7-0 record before losing their last two games proceeding Monday's home match-up with Sussex Tech. Worcester lost to old rival Saints Peter and Paul, 17-5, last Wednesday and followed up that first defeat with a 13-12 double overtime loss to Tower Hill of Delaware last Friday.

However, the Mallards righted the ship on Monday at the expense of visiting Sussex Tech. Just three minutes into the game, Worcester led 3-0. The Mallards had extended the lead to 6-0 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half and were off and running.

Sussex Tech got on the board at the 8:42 mark of the first half to cut the lead to 7-1. About a half a minute later, Sussex scored again to cut the lead to 7-2, but Worcester had the quick answer and extended its lead to 8-2 with 7:23 remaining. The Ravens would not go quietly, however. Sussex scored at the 5:51 mark to cut the lead to 8-3 and added another goal at the 2:43 mark to cut the lead to 8-4 and suddenly it was a contest again.

However, Worcester regrouped and scored on a goal by Molly Dickerson at the 1:59 mark to extend the lead to 9-4. Sara Noyes made it 10-4 with just over a minute left in the first half. Each team scored again with under a minute left in the first half and Worcester took an 11-5 lead into intermission.

Sussex regrouped at the half and came out firing in the second, scoring a quick goal just over a minute into the period to cut the lead to 11-6. Again, Worcester had the answer, scoring on a goal by Dickerson about two minutes later and another goal by Noyes on an assist from Dickerson a minute after that to extend the lead to 13-6.

Sussex scored to cut the lead to 13-7 with a lot of time left, but that was as close as the Ravens would get. Worcester steadily pulled away the rest of the game and ended with a 17-7 win.
