WEST OCEAN CITY – The Powerhouse Gym in West Ocean City has come full circle.
Originally opened in the early 90’s in its current location inside the Food Lion Shopping Center off Route 611 in West Ocean City, the new Powerhouse Gym is taking over again and opening in December 2010.
Initially, when Tony and Laura Taghipour purchased the Powerhouse Gym in October 1997, the club had less than 180 members. It was filled with older equipment, had no childcare and the group exercise room was not connected to the main facility. The gym offered limited services for the community, but soon after the purchase, remodeling and the addition of services began. Walls were taken down to give access to the current cardio room and the group exercise room, a childcare room was added and additional equipment was purchased. It became a family friendly gym for all, according to owner Tony Taghipour.
Now in 2010, Tony, Laura and Nick Taghipour return to Ocean City to add an additional 4,000 square feet to the existing facility. However, Taghipour says that’s just the beginning. “The whole space is being renovated and rebuilt – more spacious marble and granite locker rooms with saunas for males and females, a new spacious child care room complete with Wii, a technologically advanced front desk complete with a fresh juice and smoothie bar, and a 60-inch monitor information center,” said Taghipour.
No more carrying around a membership card either, says Taghipour, as members will be able to use Seaford and Salisbury Powerhouse Gym memberships without the hassle of signing in.
“Powerhouse Gym is going green,” said Taghipour. “Our advanced computer system will include thumbprint scanning, signature capture pads and paperless contracts as well as purchasing on account and billing paying on-line.”
In addition, a childcare monitoring system has been put in place so that parents can see their children from anywhere in the gym. The group exercise program will include indoor group cycling with Keiser bikes and offer the all new Les Mills exercise program. All new state-of-the-art equipment will fill the gym and greet members when it opens.
Powerhouse Gym will be offering discounted memberships for students, seniors, teachers, nurses, firefighters, correction officers, law enforcement officers and more. With an additional $5 per month, members can get unlimited tanning.
Powerhouse Gym is now open for its pre-opening sale. An official grand opening will be held next month. Call 410-213-POWR(7697) for more information.
