Decatur Boys Fall to Easton, 5-1

9/21/2012 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- After beating Easton at home every year for the last decade or so, the Stephen Decatur boys’ varsity soccer team finally fell to the visiting Warriors, 5-1, on Monday to even its record at 2-2 thus far this year.

The Seahawks hadn’t lost to Easton at home for 10 years and last lost to the Warriors anywhere in 2009, but the trend stopped on Monday. Easton got on the board early with one goal coming on a free kick and a second coming on a penalty shot. The Warriors made it 3-0 on a goal off a nice crossing pass in front of the Decatur goal just before the half.

Decatur got on the board early in the second on a long shot that bounced high over the Easton keeper to cut the lead to 3-1. However, the Warriors added two late goals to seal the rare 5-1 win over Decatur in Berlin.

After starting the season with a 4-1 win over Kent Island, followed by a 3-0 win over North Caroline, the Seahawks have now dropped two straight including a 1-0 loss to Queen Anne’s and Monday’s loss to Easton. Next up for the Seahawks is a road game against Worcester County rival Pocomoke next Wednesday.
