BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's varsity wrestling team rebounded from a tough first loss of the season last week by sweeping a pair of matches in a combined meet with Rising Sun and Queen Anne's last Saturday.
The Seahawks had been steamrolling opponents all season in regular matches and several tournaments including an impressive win in the Bob Rowe Delmarva Classic two weeks ago before running into a buzz saw against Sussex Central last Wednesday. Decatur dropped 11 of 14 matches to Sussex Central on its way to a 58-15 loss. The only Seahawks to prevail against Sussex Central were Johnny Soghomonian (140), Bryce Smith (171) and Dylan Drew (285).
However, Decatur was able to put the defeat behind them quickly, sweeping Rising Sun and Queen Anne's in a combined match at Queen Anne's last Saturday. Decatur beat always tough Rising Sun, 48-18, with Drew, Smith, Matt Meekins, Cobin Lohnas, C.J. Mitchell, Josh Bargar, and Luke Bargar each picking up wins.
During the same meet, Decatur defeated Queen Anne's, 42-23, with Matt Meekins (103), Nick McLoota (119), Seth Goggin (125), Devin Bataille (130), Lohnas (135), Josh Bargar (152), Bryce Smith (160), Mike Meekins (189), and Drew (285) each picking up individual wins.
