Mallards Rout Delmar For 10th In A Row

10/22/2010 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Worcester Prep's boys' varsity soccer team this week routed visiting Delmar, 7-1, on Monday for its 10th straight win to improve to 12-1 on the season.

The Mallards score two early goals against Delmar on Monday at home to take a 2-0 lead, but did not break through for the remainder of the first half. Worcester applied constant pressure on the Delmar defensive end of the field, but could not extend its lead and went into the intermission ahead by two goals.

In the second half, however, everything started coming together offensively for the Mallards. An extra pass here or a well place shot there started going Worcester's way in the second half and the goals started coming in bunches. After leading 2-0 at the break, Worcester cruised to the 7-1 victory in the second half.

Andrew Ternahan and Matt Carey each scored two goals, while Ryan Nally, Chris Fisher and Ryan McGuire each scored single goals for the Mallards. The win over Delmar on Monday was the 10th in a row for Worcester, a stretch during which the Mallards outscored their opponents by a combined 47-4. Worcester was scheduled to wrap its regular season yesterday with a game against Delmarva Christian and will place in the ESIAC tournament next week.
