OC Fall Flag Football in Full Swing

9/30/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

OCEAN CITY- The Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department’s Fall Flag Football League continued this week with three teams still unbeaten after three weeks of play.

Kirby’s Red Onion and Seacrets are tied atop the OC Fall Flag Football League standings after three weeks with identical 3-0 records, while the FOP Lodge 10 is lurking close behind at 2-0. The following is a look at some of this week’s action:

(bullet) Kirby’s Red Onion 40- U.S. Coast Guard 6: Kirby’s Red Onion quarterback Timmy Velasco got the onslaught started with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Barry Snowden, followed by another eight-yard TD bass to Chris Boland. Kirby’s Red Onion made it 21-0 on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Velasco to J.R. Emmanuel. Snowden then hit Boland with a seven-yard scoring strike to make it 28-0. Velasco then threw touchdown passes to Snowden and Kevin Belt to extend the lead to 40-0. The Coast Guard finally got on the board with a touchdown pass from Logan Adkinson to Dan MacGrath.

(bullet) Seacrets 27- Kirby’s Pub/NAS 7: Seacrets got on the board early with a pair of touchdown passes from Ryan Gartland to Zach Converse and Warren Anderson for an early 12-0 lead. Kirby’s cut the lead to 12-7 on a six-yard touchdown pass from Ruben Ortega to Jay Manuel. Gartland threw a 14-yard TD pass to Converse to extend the lead to 19-7. Converse settled the issue once and for all with an interception returned 20 yards to round out the scoring at 20-7.

(bullet) Buxy’s Salty Dog 28- Eastside Mafia 19: In a back and forth contest, Buxy’s got on the board first with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Nick Jones to D.J. Draus, but ESM came right back with a touchdown pass from Ray Taranto to Ron Strickler to take the lead, 7-6. Jones then threw an eight-yard TD pass to Justin Howarth to retake the lead at 13-7, but ESM came right back again on a two-yard TD pass from Taranto to Kyle Swayngim to tie the game at 13-13. Jones then hit Draus with an 86-yard bomb to retake the lead, 19-13. After a bad snap resulted in a safety, Buxy’s extended its lead to 21-13. Jones then hit Pat Spicer with an eight-yard TD pass to push the lead to 28-13. ESM got closer late in the game on a four-yard TD pass from Taranto to Vince Stewart to cut the lead to 28-19, but the damage had been done.

(bullet) BACKers 20- Tequila Mockingbird 6: The BACKers’ Corey Goff accounted for all of his team’s scores, catching touchdown passes of 19 yards and 40 yards from Andy Hartstein and running for a 48-yard touchdown. Tequila Mockingbird’s only score came on a one-yard TD pass from Chase George to Kevin Hooker.
