Seahawks Edge Rams, 7-6

4/10/2009 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur's varsity softball team recovered from its first loss of the season last week with a dramatic 7-6 win over visiting James M. Bennett at home on Tuesday.

The Seahawks had breezed through the first part of their season, clobbering their first four opponents by a combined 67-1 including five shutouts. However, Decatur was handed its first loss of the season last Thursday against Parkside, 12-4, and it was uncertain how the Seahawks would respond to their first taste of adversity.

Decatur responded by beating Bennett, 7-6, at home on Tuesday to get back in the win column. The Seahawks scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to get back in the win column. Maddie Justice earned the win on the mound and helped her own cause with two hits and three RBIs.
