BERLIN- Decatur’s girls’ varsity softball team got back on the winning track this week, beating Crisfield and Washington in impressive fashion to improve to 3-2 on the young season.
The Seahawks ran into a bit of an early season slump last week with an 8-0 loss to Wicomico followed by a 5-1 loss to county rival Pocomoke to drop to 1-2. However, the Decatur girls’ got their groove back this week with a pair of big wins over Somerset County teams.
The Seahawks beat Crisfield, 15-0, as Jessica Bunting went the distance on the mound and collected three hits and drove in two runs. Jessica Iacona also delivered at the plate against the Crabbers with three hits and three runs driven in. On Monday, the Seahawks routed Washington, 11-2, with Iacona on the mound. Iacona allowed just two hits and struck out eight in the victory. Beth Laque had two hits and scored a run, while Emma Ditzel also had two hits and scored twice.
