Unbeaten Seahawks Sweep Bennett

9/30/2011 | By Shawn J. Soper, Sports Editor

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity volleyball team passed a big early season test this week, sweeping Bayside South rival Bennett in three games on Monday to remain unbeaten on the season.

Something had to give when the unbeaten Seahawks faced the also unbeaten Clippers at home on Monday. Last year, the two teams battled all season for the conference title and were on an early collision course this season with unblemished records. However, Decatur got the best of its rivals on Monday, sweeping three games in the match by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20.

Hallee Carr led the Seahawks with 21 assists, while Amy Casey pitched in 11 kills. Decatur’s Abby Hastings had 16 service points, including six aces, to go along with 11 digs. Emyln Hammer also contributed with eight digs and four kills, while Casey Ortiz added four kills.
