Child Falls From Condo Balcony

6/26/2009 | By News Editor, Shawn J. Soper

OCEAN CITY - Ocean City fire officials this week confirmed an 8-year-old boy was critically injured when he fell from a fourth-floor balcony of a condominium on Monday evening.

According to fire officials, the unidentified youth fell from the balcony of a unit at the Jamaica condominiums on the bayside at 33rd Street around 5 p.m. on Monday and struck the pavement below. The victim was flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury where he was initially listed in critical condition. No updates on the victim's condition had been provided as of mid-week.

Monday's tragic accident came two weeks to the day from the most recent reported balcony fall in the resort. On Monday, June 8, a Chesapeake Beach, Va. man was seriously injured when he fell from a balcony at a downtown motel. Around 8:30 p.m. on June 8, Ocean City police responded to 211 Baltimore Ave. to assist Ocean City EMS with a person, later identified as Edward Sean Kiger, 19, of Chesapeake Beach, Va., who had fallen from a third-floor balcony. Witnesses at the scene told police Kiger was attempting to climb over a piece of plywood on a third-story balcony when he fell three floors to the pavement below.
