OCEAN CITY – The new Quiet Storm Surf Shop, located downtown on the Boardwalk had its opening ribbon cutting a couple weeks ago and is ready to show off its new wide variety of merchandise just in time for the busy summer season.
Quiet Storm Surf Shop has been serving a wide range of customers since 1984. They offer a variety of surfboards, skateboards, clothing and accessories for men, women and kids. Quiet Storm carries all brands of surf brands including Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, Reef, Rainbow, Roxy, Oneill, Element, Hurley, Free People, RVCA, Sanuk and UGG. It also carries a large sampling of sunglasses, sandals, wetsuits, rashguards and shoes.
The neighboring Edwards Department Store and Quiet Storm Surf Shop are owned by Bill Dreibelbis, and partners Dale and Kelly Loeser. Previously, Edwards was 32,000 square feet containing a downstairs and upstairs section. Now that Quiet Storm has moved in next door, Edwards has downsized to be only half of the downstairs and Quiet Storm is now half of the downstairs and the entire upstairs of the property.
“Edwards has been here for over 70 years, and it is a landmark for a lot of people,” Quiet Storm Buyer/Manager Meredith Moore said. “They just downsized but they are still here.”
According to Moore, Edwards is now around 10,000 square feet and Quiet Storm holds around 22,000 square feet of the property. She refers to the Edwards and Quiet Storm combination as a “one-stop shop” because between the two stores there is something to offer the entire family.
“We’re just trying to do something different,” Moore said. “All these surf shops do kind of the same thing. We’re just trying to make it a different experience, enjoyable and not over crowded.”
Moore explained that the upstairs of Quiet Storm has been taken over to be a “girl’s oasis”. It contains girls, juniors and even woman’s apparel and accessories, including jewelry counters, a swim wear section, full shoe selection along with flip flops, and even household items.
“We have it just for the girls where they go up there so they can have their own experience,” Moore said.
The downstairs of Quiet Storm includes boy’s and men’s apparel as well as shoes, sunglasses, surfboards and skateboards.
“We have the largest selection of sandals in Ocean City for both men and woman,” Moore said.
Quiet Storm Surf Shop has a wide variety of boards to choose from. Their surfboard selection includes short, long and paddle boards. The skateboard section also includes short and longboards or visitors can even create their own their skateboard from scratch. Quiet Storm’s hardware buyer L.P Cyburt created the new skate section and, according to Moore, is the perfect guy for the job.
“The skate section is pretty awesome,” Moore said. “L.P has skated his entire life and is the guru of skate.”
Moore said that there is always some sort of sale running on Quiet Storm Surf Shop name brand T-shirts and sweats. She added that there is something in everybody’s price range. Girls can go upstairs and find a dress for prices starting around $20 and up, or downstairs there is sunglasses starting around $9 and up.
“We try to cater to everyone as far as not being so pricey,” Moore said.
Quiet Storm’s Boardwalk hours are now 9 a.m-6 p.m., and towards the end of the month they will be open until midnight for the peak of the summer season.
