June 12-Carbon Monoxide Scare Evacuates Hotel
OCEAN CITY - Police and fire investigators are busy this morning trying to determine the source of a carbon monoxide leak that evacuated a downtown resort hotel last night.
On Thursday, June 11, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Ocean City Communications received a call for six 'ill' people in a hotel room at the El Capitan on 4th Street and the Boardwalk.
Upon arrival, Ocean City EMS personnel detected high levels of carbon monoxide in the building and immediately requested additional public safety units, including police and fire services.
The family of six that initiated the call were transported to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. As of last night, the injuries to the family appear to be non-life threatening.
Police and fire department personnel conducted a thorough search through each unit of the El Capitan to assure that all patrons were evacuated safely.
The source of the carbon monoxide is being investigated by the Ocean City Police Department and the Fire Marshal's Office. More information will be reported on this site as the probe continues.
